Jon Heyman of MLB Network was the first to report on Friday morning that the Boston Red Sox were bringing back manager Alex Cora. It was widely reported on Thursday that it was down to Cora and Sam Fuld.
Cora, of course, was a rookie manager for Boston when they won the World Series in 2018. However, after the 2019 season, he was suspended for a year for his role in the Houston Astros cheating scandal.
Former Astros manager AJ Hinch was also suspended for the 2020, but was recently named the manager of the Detroit Tigers.
Carlos Beltran was hired to be the Mets manager in November of 2019, though lost that job in January of 2020 when it became known he played a significant role in the Astros cheating.
Beltran – would’ve been a first-time manager for the Mets – has not been hired or even mentioned for any vacancies this offseason.
