This afternoon, the New York Mets (45-51) were defeated by the Oakland Athletics (44-54) by a score of 3-2.

Pitching:

Rafael Montero started for New York and turned in a solid performance, going seven innings allowing three runs.

However, Montero was done in by the long ball as the A’s launched three solo home runs by Khris Davis, Marcus Semien and Matt Chapman.

Regardless, he has continued to show a lot to the Mets and has rewarded them with his patience.

Fernando Salas and Josh Smoker each chipped in a scoreless inning of work in relief of Montero.

Offense:

Michael Conforto continued his hot hitting since the All-Star Break. He hit his fifth home run in the third to tie up the game at one at the time.

In the sixth with one out and runners at second and third, Jose Reyes had a RBI groundout but that was all the Mets would get.

Unfortunately, the late home run from Oakland proved to be the difference maker as the Mets fell 3-2.

On deck:

The Mets next travel to San Diego to face the Padres on Monday. Jacob deGrom (11-3, 3.37 ERA) takes on Clayton Richard (5-10, 5.35 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. (ET).
