Tonight, the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins by a score of 8-1 in the second game of the series at Citi Field.

Pitching

What on earth is happening to Rafael Montero? After five scoreless innings, Montero broke for a run in the sixth to give the Marlins a brief 1-0 lead.

He’s looked much better, challenging hitters, and pitching in to hitters.

His final line read: 6 IP, 6 H, ER, 3 BB, 5 K.

Montero has now thrown two straight quality starts.

Hansel Robles pitched two scoreless innings and Chasen Bradford pitched one of his own to close out the victory.

The Mets pitching staff tied a club record as they induced five double plays in the win.

Offense

After a slow start, the Mets broke open with a huge sixth inning.

The big hits came from Michael Conforto, Wilmer Flores, and Kevin Plawecki. Conforto was aided by a Marlins error.

Flores and Plawecki both hit two-run home runs. Great to see Plawecki succeeding and elevating the ball like he did in Vegas.

Dominic Smith homered for the first time at Citi Field in the eighth inning and scored two runs.
