The Mets will look to even the series today against the Marlins behind Rafael Montero as he takes on former Phillie Vance Worley. Last night the Mets lost 3-1 in another game where the bullpen did a good job but the offense went flat (Rosario, however did record two hits). After the game, my favorite player, my heart and soul, Curtis Granderson was traded to the Dodgers.

MARLINS LINEUP

Will be posted upon release…

Rafael Montero is 1-8 over 24 games (10 starts) and 71.1 innings with a 5.80 ERA, 4.61 FIP and 1.752 WHIP. He is coming off of a strong start against the Yankees where he allowed three runs over six innings with five hits and two walks. It was one of the best starts I’ve seen from Montero. He looked like an ace for the first three innings, got into a lot of trouble in the fourth but didn’t melt down and allowed only one run. He allowed a solo shot later in the game. He hasn’t been good against the Marlins this year allowing seven runs over 8 1/3 innings in parts of five games including 16 hits and eight walks. The Marlins have the following numbers against him:

  • Gordon 4-for-15, 2B, BB
  • Ozuna 3-for-8, 4 BB
  • Realmuto 2-for-10, BB
  • Stanton 3-for-8, 2B, BB
  • Yelich 1-for-5, 3 BB
  • Suzuki 3-for-6, 3B
  • Ellis 1-for-3, 2B, 2 BB
  • Rojas 4-for-4

Vance Worley has been all over the place since leaving the Phillies in 2012 including Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Miami (and DC, but he didn’t play in an official game with the Nationals). This year, he is 2-2 over 16 games and eight starts logging 50 2/3 innings posting a 4.97 ERA, 3.77 FIP and 1.500 WHIP. He had two good to great starts at the beginning of August allowing one run over 13.0 innings but in his last start, he allowed three runs over four innings. He made back-to-back relief appearances against the Mets earlier this season where he allowed nothing in two innings with four strikeouts. The Mets have the following numbers against Vance:

  • d’Arnaud 1-for-3
  • Lagares 1-for-3
  • Reynolds 0-for-2
  • Cespedes 0-for-1

NOTES:

Yoenis Céspedes has four homers, eight RBI and six runs scored in his last 10 games. Céspedes has nine homers and 24 RBI in 41 career games vs. Miami.

Amed Rosario has a hit in 11 of his 17 games since making his debut on August 1 at Colorado. He is 9-for-his-last-27 (.333). Five of his 14 major league hits have been extra-base hits (two triples, two homers and one double). He is the sixth-youngest player in the majors.

New York relievers have worked 9.1 scoreless innings over the last two nights. In their last 11 games dating to August 8, the Mets bullpen has posted a 1.93 ERA (eight earned runs/37.1 innings) with 44 strikeouts.
