The Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 in eleven innings on Saturday night.
Pitching
Seth Lugo finished off his 2017 campaign with four solid innings. Lugo allowed a pair of runs in the second inning on a Maikel Franco home run and a Cesar Hernandez RBI single, but that was all. In total, Lugo allowed the two runs on six hits and struck out four.
Chase Bradford and Josh Smoker combined for 1.2 scoreless innings. Smoker has allowed only two earned runs in his last 18 innings.
After the Mets took the lead back, Paul Sewald allowed the Phillies to tie the game up in the seventh. Sewald retired the first batter in the seventh, then walked the bases loaded before being pulled.
Jamie Callahan inherited the bases loaded with only one out. Aaron Altherr got the Phillies back within a run with a sacrifice fly, then Rhys Hoskins tied the game with an RBI single. Sewald was charged with both earned runs.
Jerry Blevins relieved Callahan, and was able to strand the go-ahead run at second.
AJ Ramos struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning.
Jacob Rhame pitched a scoreless ninth and tenth, and struck out a pair.
Jeurys Familia secured his first save since returning from the disabled list in a scoreless eleventh inning.
Hitting
In the second, Kevin Plawecki led off the inning with a single, then Dominic Smith drew a walk. The Mets were set with runners on first and second and nobody out. However, the threat was ended quickly as Amed Rosario grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.
The Mets again had Plawecki and Smith at first and second after back to back two out walks in the fourth. Rosario came through this time, as he cut the Phillies lead to 2-1 with a ground rule double to left. If not for fan interference, Smith would’ve scored as well.
The Mets took the lead in the fifth, rallying for a pair of runs. Nori Aoki and Jose Reyes drew back to back walks, and Brandon Nimmo stepped in with two outs. Nimmo smacked his first career triple to deep center field giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.
The Mets threatened to extend the lead in the sixth as Juan Lagares lined a one out double to right. He then advanced to third on a passed ball. With Lagares on third, Travis d’Arnaud flew one to right fielder Nick Williams. Lagares attempted to score on the fly out, however Williams came up throwing and gunned down Lagares at the plate.
An Asdrubal Cabrera RBI double in the seventh scored Nori Aoki, extending the Mets lead to 4-2.
In the eleventh, Asdrubal Cabrera put the Mets ahead for good with a two out three run home run. Cabrera went 4-for-6 with four RBI’s on the night.
Kevin Plawecki reached base five times on the night with two hits and three walks. Plawecki has reached base three or more times five times this month and is hitting .301 since being recalled on August 19.

The Mets take on the Phillies in their season finale Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Ballpark. Noah Syndergaard will make his second start since returning, and is expected to throw 20-25 pitches. Rookie righty Nick Pivetta will be on the mound for the Phillies. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 PM.
