I don’t even know how to feel about that piss-poor performance by Oliver Perez yesterday. Only 24 hours from Opening Day, and he already has most of us worried including his own pitching coach who ripped him ten days ago for being out of shape, and his own manager who said he was very, very, very concerned. (<—- 3 verys)
At this point it’s something we can’t even do anything about… $36 million dollars and you can’t even say with all certainty that we have a chance to win when he’s on the mound because half the time he puts us in a position to lose.
Also, I should be the last one to complain because I clamored for him all off season citing his age, maturity and potential as big pluses going forward. What was I thinking?
Yesterdays excuse was that it was a little chilly and he can’t pitch when it’s chilly, but he will try to learn how because he heard it was chilly in Cincinnati too. That’s where we’ll see Ollie again as he pitches the final game of the opening day series.
On another note, how many games do the Mets have to play at Citi Field before we can say they have a home field advantage?
Is it just me, or did they look like a square peg in a round hole on the field the last two days?
I’m sure this must be something all teams go through when they get a new park, but I wonder how long it will take before everyone gets really acclimated? Fifty games, a hundred games, two-hundred game?
The Yankees looked right at home in their new stadium which was built definitely for the long-ball. Seven home runs were hit by the Yankees in two games so far, with Mark Teixeira belting a pair on Saturday, and none of the seven were cheap shots either.
As Mets fans, we’ve grown up loving the game at Shea Stadium, a pitchers park. Citi Field sure looks to be just that, and maybe even more so than Shea was according to Gary Cohen and Ron Darling during the broadcast.
It’s a beautiful stadium to say the least. Custom made for the Dodgers, I mean the Mets.
Damn, I wish Oliver Perez would just grow up already and take the next step…
