New York Mets reliever AJ Ramos came into a sticky situation on Wednesday night with one out, bases loaded and the winning run at first base against the Cincinnati Reds.
Ramos struck out Adam Duvall with a nasty breaking ball to get the second out of the inning. AJ then faced the powerful Scooter Gennett, who worked the count full count before Ramos struck him out swinging on another great offspeed pitch. The Mets won 2-0 behind a masterful performance by starter Rafael Montero.
The former Marlin is now a perfect 6 for 6 in save opportunities since the Mets acquired him in July. He also has 19 strikeouts in 12.2 innings with the Mets and has allowed only one run over his last eight appearances that spans 8.2 innings.
Ramos now has a 3.61 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 26 saves overall on the 2017 season. He is one of three relievers to post 25 or more saves in each of
the last three years along with Kenley Jansen and Craig Kimbrel.
