Last night, Rafael Montero had, without a doubt, his best start of his career. He got through eight innings and allowed only a hit. However, Terry Collins let him trot out for the ninth and he struggled as he allowed two hits. That prompted Collins to put A.J. Ramos to finish the game after intentionally walking Joey Votto, and he struck out the last two batters. Montero’s final line read as 8 1/3 IP, 3 hits, eight strikeouts, and four walks.
Offensively, the Mets only recorded five hits, which were highlighted by RBI doubles by Wilmer Flores and Kevin Plawecki in the first inning.
