Phillies Could Shop Jeremy Hellickson

With the way things are going, the Mets are going to need as much starting pitching depth as they can get.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says that the Philadelphia Phillies could look to shop RHP Jeremy Hellickson leading up to the trade deadline.

Hellickson, 30, has gone 4-1 with a 3.49 ERA thus far in 2017 for the Phillies, who Cafardo says signed him to use as a trade chip this year.

With the Mets having trouble getting six innings out of their current starters, reinforcements are needed and Hellickson could be a viable option.

For his eight year career, Hellickson has logged a 65-59 record with a 3.88 ERA in 174 games started.

The Mets recently picked up Tommy Milone off waivers from the Minnesota Twins, but with Matt Harvey pitching like a shell of what he once was and Robert Gsellman’s 7+ ERA, the in-house options have run thin, meaning Hellickson is a name the Mets should keep tabs on.
