Sporting News started conducting their voting for their 2019 season awards on Wednesday and Pete Alonso won Rookie of the Year with 136 votes.

Alonso, 24, won in a landslide as the closest player to him was Bryan Reynolds who received six votes. Mike Soroka and Fernando Tatis Jr. both received five votes while three people voted for others.

The first baseman had a historic rookie season in which he registered the most homers in a player’s first season ever with 53, eclipsing Aaron Judge‘s previous record of 52 home runs.

In addition, Alonso hit .260/.358/.583 with 120 RBI to give himself a 143 wRC+ and 4.8 fWAR on the season. And for all of the concerns about his defense in Spring Training, Alonso was not too bad at the position as he had -6 DRS and a 1.8 UZR in 1,328 innings.
