The Mets (69-83) dropped Wednesday night’s game to the Orioles (76-78), 7-1, at Citi Field, unable to recover after starter Xzavion Curry was rocked for six runs — including four home runs — in just three innings of work.

Baltimore got on the board in the first when Pete Alonso led off with a solo home run. They tacked on two more in the second, as Christian Encarnacion-Strand doubled and later scored on a two-run homer from Jeremiah Jackson, making it 3-0. Curry’s final inning was his worst: Coby Mayo walked, and Encarnacion-Strand followed with a two-run homer of his own, before Samuel Basallo added a solo shot the very next at-bat, pushing it to 6-0.
New York got its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Jared Young drew a walk, advanced to second on a balk, and scored on a Marcus Semien RBI single to make it 6-1.
Curry was pulled after three innings, his final line reading six runs on six hits and four home runs allowed, with three strikeouts and a walk. Jefry Yan and Jack Weisenburger combined for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and the Mets threatened in the seventh — Jared Young and Brett Baty both singled to put runners on the corners — but Anthony Nunez came on and struck out Luis Torrens to strand them.
Baltimore tacked on an insurance run in the ninth off Weisenburger, as Encarnacion-Strand doubled and later scored on a Samuel Basallo RBI single, making it 7-1, which held as the final. Chris Bassitt worked six strong innings for the win, allowing just one run on three hits with five strikeouts, while Curry took the loss.

Jefry Yan was the player of the game for the Mets. The lefty punched out three batters across three scoreless innings of work.
ON DECK
Nolan McLean (11-9, 3.24 ERA) will get the start for New York on Thursday. In his last outing against the Yankees, the right-hander allowed five runs on 10 hits over five innings pitched, walking one and striking out five.
Aaron Nola (6-10, 4.69 ERA) will take the mound for the Phillies. In his last time out against the Braves, he tossed six and 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
