Two days after a horrific car crash, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is back on the practice field of Port St. Lucie taking grounders and crushing home runs.

Alonso was unable to report on Sunday because of the accident. His truck flipped three times and he had to kick out the windshield in order to escape from his vehicle.

“Yesterday was a really close experience to death,” Alonso said. “My car flipped over probably about three times. I’m really thankful to be alive. I’m really thankful that I’m healthy. I’m very thankful to be here, I’m just super, super blessed to be here.”

Alonso was traveling by himself while his wife and other family members were trailing in the car behind him. They all turned out alright.

His wife Haley posted Alonso’s truck after the crash.

Alonso reported to camp the next day but did not participate. He went through a full workout on Tuesday. The 27-year-old slugger hopes to put the incident behind him and continue to get better from a season ago when he led the Mets in hits (147), home runs (37), and RBIs (94).

Thankfully he’s alright and is now back to doing what he does best.
