460′ To Shea Bridge

Game Summary

Not often seen, but often celebrated is a complete game from a Mets starter. Pelfrey pitched a complete game with only five hits allowed. The Mets scored six runs, with three RBIs coming from Beltran in a 6-1 win.

Game Notes

Mike Pelfrey, the man people who were counting out before his first start; including me, really seems to be turning it around for the Mets. He continued his string of good starts, with the first complete game thrown by a Mets pitcher since 2008. In the days of not allowing pitchers to see 100 pitches, Pelfrey reached 123 pitches and finished the game all by himself. Resting the bullpen is always good. Pelf’s line ends with nine innings pitched, one run on five hits, one homerun, no walks, and 5 Ks. Pelf now 4-5 on the season.

The Mets may only have one player with ten homeruns, while the Yankees have two players with over twenty, but the Mets sure know how to bunch their hits and score. With a run in the third, two more in the fourth, and three more in the fifth, it was plenty of offense for a nice win. Carlos Beltran led the offense with two hits, three RBIs, and a Beltran Bomb that reached into the Shea Bridge. I believe he’s the third batter to do so. Reyes had only one hit, but scored two runs, and swiped two bases (26). “As Reyes goes, so go the Mets”…or something like that.

Jason Bay with two hits, an RBI, and a run. Who knows, he might get to .230 after tomorrow.

Duda and Paulino 0-7, 2 Ks.

Turning Point

When Pelf returned to the mound in the ninth.

Game Ball
