Buffalo Bisons 3 | Norfolk Tides 11

Talk about a throw away season. Josh Stinson has been just downright awful all year long and tonight was no different. He gave up seven runs in three innings tonight and that is actually his longest outing in his last three starts. Those three starts have lasted 1.1, 2, and 3 innings. In those 6.1 innings he has given up 21 runs (20 earned) on 19 hits and eight walks. Now I am starting to question whether or not a move to the bullpen can even help him at this point. Mike O’Connor was forced to pitch in very long relief and threw 70 pitches with poor results giving up four runs.

The Bisons had 11 hits and every one of them was a single. Not shocking considering how terrible this lineup is without Duda, Nieuwenhuis, and Martinez day-to-day. On the brightside the only two RBIs were from Michael Fisher and Zach Lutz, so at east they’re still producing.

Stars of the Game: 1. Jesus Feliciano (3-for-4, outfield assist) (8pts) 2. Zach Lutz (1-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 K) (21pts) 3. Jason Botts (3-for-4) (4pts)

Binghamton Mets 7 | Trenton Thunder 4

This is now two consecutive starts (both against Trenton) that Jeurys Familia has struck out double digit batters. The only real difficulties Familia faced all game was the second inning when his mechanics went a little out of wack and he wound up walking two and throwing a wild pitch. His natural stuff was enough to get him out of the inning with two strikeouts. Unfortunately for Familia Ricky Brooks blew the game for him and Familia picked up another no decision. Amazingly Familia has found a way to win just one game for the entire year.

Jordany Valdespin added to the legend with a leadoff home run in the 1st inning and Raul Reyes followed by leading off the 2nd inning with a home run. Both men hit the homers off Kei Igawa and I just love when lefties take other lefties deep. Allan Dykstra just missed a home run in the 1st inning, driving the ball deep to opposite field, but didn’t miss any of it in the 7th for a three-run shot to break the tie.

Stars of the Game: 1. Jeurys Familia (6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 10 SO) (6pts) 2. Allan Dykstra (1-for-3, HR, R, 4 RBI, K) (29pts) 3. Jordany Valdespin (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, CS) (31pts)

FSL South All-Stars 3 | FSL North All-Stars 5

It was the Mets’ pitchers that blew this game. Darin Gorski started and gave up two runs, only one of which was earned. Scott Moviel picked up the loss by giving up two runs on three hits.

Matt Den Dekker was 0-for-3 with a walk and strikeout. He also committed an error. Pedro Zapata was 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

Savannah Sand Gnats 4 | Greenville Drive 5

It wasn’t as much of a bad start for Ryan Fraser so much as a bad inning. Outside of the 4th inning Fraser faced just one over the minimum. In that 4th inning, however, he gave up two doubles, two home runs, walked a batter, threw a wild pitch, and would finish the inning with five runs on the board.

Darrell Ceciliani had to leave the game following the top of the 4th inning. The reason is still unknown, but hopefully his hamstring is not acting up. The Gnats tried to make a comeback in the 7th when an error allowed Joe Bonfe to reach safely to leadoff the inning. After getting to first and third with one out, Wilfredo Tovar hit routine double play ball, but the second baseman threw the ball away and Tovar was able to reach safely and get to second. Cory Vaughn singled him in, but the rally would fall just short.

Stars of the Game: 1. Rafael Fernandez (2-for-4, 2 2B, R, 2 K) (18pts) 2. Alonzo Harris (1-for-3, 2B, RBI, K) (9pts) 3. Cory Vaughn (1-for-4, RBI, 2 K) (37pts)

Brooklyn Cyclones 2 | Staten Island Yankees 3

The 19-year-old Mexican lefty, Carlos Vazquez pitched fairly well tonight even though he could not get out of the 5th inning. Vazques pitched pretty well last year and showed great command, but until I am able to find out more about him he just strikes me as an Angel Cuan type. 2011 draft pick Tyson Seng struck out three in two innings of relief.

Danny Muno and Travis Taijeron both had big games again. Each had two hits including a double. Muno added in two walks and a run scored, while Taijeron picked up an RBI. For someone who looked so polished last year, Brian Harrison‘s six strike outs in eight at-bats this year is a bit mind-boggling.

Stars of the Game: 1. Danny Muno (2-for-3, 2B, R, 2 BB, K) (5pts) 2. Travis Taijeron (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, 2 K) (5pts) 3. Amarius Valdez (2-for-4) (1pt)
