It looks like the Mets will not be going to any arbitration hearings after all. The lone hold-out Pedro Feliciano, has just agreed to a contract with the New York Mets, thus avoiding arbitration which was scheduled for next week.
Feliciano signs a one-year deal for $1,612,500 which is a significant raise from last seasons $575,000.
The Mets will be leaning heavily on Feliciano this season as the lone lefty in the bullpen. There were some grumblings that the Mets might sign another lefty for the bullpen based on recent comments by Omar Minaya, but that ship seems to be sailing as the Mets get set to open camp in less than a week.
When Feliciano is used solely against left handed hitters, he is among the elite specialists in the league.
Last year he was used in too many situations where he was forced to pitch to right handed hitters that enjoyed much success against him.
He was also overused and logged a a ton of innings while leading the league in appearances with 86 games.
Hopefully with the additions of K-Rod and Putz, Feliciano can ease back into the lefty specialist role that made him such a great weapon for the Mets in 2006 and 2007.
