According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Mets Vice President of player development and scouting Paul DePodesta is open to being a General Manager once again. That is as long as he’s in the right situation with the right people.

He was a former GM for the Dodgers back in 2004 which was his first season at the helm. In that year, the Dodgers won their first playoff game in 16 years. But the next season, LA finished with their worst record in 11 years and DePodesta was fired.

After that, DePodesta was hired as the Special Assistant for Baseball Operations with the San Diego Padres. Back then, current Mets GM Sandy Alderson was CEO for the Padres. Alderson later on was hired to be the Mets GM in 2010 and during that process he hired DePodesta to join him with the Mets.

According to Rosenthal, Alderson desired only one person to overlook the Mets amateur drafts, farm system and international program, with the idea of establishing consistency throughout the Mets organization and DePo was his man.

Losing DePodesta would be quite a loss for the Mets as he is as much responsible for reviving the Mets, due to his drafts and the player development protocols he put into place throughout the minor league system, as anyone else.
