According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Mets will activate Pete Alonso before their next game, whether that is tonight or tomorrow due to a potential rainout. Olney is also reporting that the Mets are expecting Kevin Pillar to return to their lineup within a few days with a protective mask over his face.

Alonso has been on the injured list since May 21 with a right hand sprain that he claims he suffered in an at-bat in St. Louis at the beginning of the month. Alonso was slashing .236/.336/.433 before going down.

Pillar was hit in the face by a 94 mph fastball in Atlanta a little less than two weeks ago. Since then, Pillar has undergone facial surgery to repair nasal fractures that he suffered during the incident. Pillar was off to a solid start for the Mets, hitting .250/.294/.388 overall with stronger numbers since he was elevated to a starting role in the absence of Brandon Nimmo.

The Mets, who are also expected to activate Seth Lugo and promote outfielder Mason Williams by Monday, will have to clear two 40-man and 26-man roster spots for those two and two additional 26-man spots for Alonso and Pillar.
