In a post by Mark Simon of ESPN New York, he writes that despite being ostracized by the Mets, Oliver Perez still wants to be with the team next season.

“I want to be back here,” Perez told ESPNNewYork.com. “I want to have a championship because I know the fans want it and I want it, too.”

Unfortunately for him and fortunately for us, Jerry Manuel has been reluctant to use him and he has not thrown a pitch in a game since August 1st.

Perez is 0-4 with a 6.70 ERA, and still has one more season left on his three-year, $36 million contact.

The Mets may try to trade him as they have been for the past 15 months, but they won’t find a taker.

Something else Oliver Perez told ESPN during the interview struck me as very bizarre…

“I know the people, they are not happy,” Perez said. “I just tell the fans I’ve been working hard to get back. I didn’t sign here to sit here and just wait. I signed here because I think we have the opportunity to try and win a championship. That is why I signed here.”

Really? You’re kidding me right???

The way I remember it was that Oliver Perez signed with the Mets because they were the only team to make him an offer…

And then the Mets did something beyond outrageous by topping their original two-year offer, the only offer on the table, just to appease Scott Boras.

So please Ollie, I beg of you, don’t ever say you signed here because you wanted to win a championship.

If championships really meant anything to you, you would have accepted the minor league assignment, gotten yourself straightened out, and returned a couple of weeks later to help your team make a big push in the NL East.

Instead, you are the reason why we won’t win a championship.
