In his second rehab outing since tearing his lat on April 30, Noah Syndergaard tossed two innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones Thursday night.
The right-hander allowed three hits, three earned runs, two walks, and struck out a pair of Staten Island batters. He threw 36 pitches, 25 of which were for strikes. Syndergaard’s fastball sat at 97-99 mph, topping out at 100, while his slider sat at 90-92 mph.
Five days ago, he worked a scoreless inning in the Gulf Coast League.
Yankees leadoff man Andy Diaz worked a full count before drawing a walk in the first inning, and Wilkerman Garcia followed with a triple to bring Diaz home. Syndergaard struck out the next two batters, including fellow MLB rehabber Kyle Higashioka, before a groundout to first base ended the frame.
In the second inning, Syndergaard allowed another leadoff walk, but induced a fielders choice from the next batter. Ryan Krill then dribbled a tailor-made double play ball to second base, but shortstop Dylan Snypes‘ return throw was wide of the bag, so the inning continued. Two more runs would score on Diaz’ double, although he was thrown out at third base.
With Brooklyn concluding their season tonight, it is conceivable that this was Syndergaard’s last tune up before his eventual major league return.
