The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 7-2 on Thursday night to win for the second straight day and three out of four.
Pitching
Matt Harvey started for the Mets on regular rest and managed to bounce back from a tough start in Houston. Harvey was fairly efficient and it looked like he could have gone another inning but was yanked for a pinch hitter.
Velocity wise, Harvey hit 95 and was about 92-94 with his fastball. It was a good stride forward for Harvey. Even when he was in trouble, he did not break and kept the Mets in the game. He got his first win since May 28.
The down side of the outing from Harvey was he only got three swing and misses.
His final line read: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, K
Josh Smoker struck out the side in a scoreless inning showing off a nasty slider.
Jeurys Familia pitched two scoreless innings with only one hit allowed and was a ground ball machine.
AJ Ramos finished up the game in a non-save situation with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Offense
Initially, the Mets looked slow to start the game but woke up against one of the worst pitching staff’s in baseball.
Dominic Smith had a RBI Single in the second and Jose Reyes had a two-run single in the fourth which gave the Mets the lead for good.
Brandon Nimmo homered twice, doubled and walked. Juan Lagares followed Nimmo’s homer in the fifth with one of his own.
Kevin Plawecki doubled and scored a run. Matt Reynolds walked three times and Asdrubal Cabrera went 2 for 4.
Mets announced after the game that Cabrera has a lower back issue and will get a MRI tomorrow.
