Atlanta Braves: (4-6; -4)

The Braves lose two out of three to the New York Yankees, and proceed to face the Boston Red Sox. Josh Beckett will face Jair Jurrjens in the opener tonight. The Braves lost two of three to the Sox last weekend.

Florida Marlins: (7-3; -1)

The Marlins swept a three game series from the Baltimore Orioles, and are the hottest team in the division.  They open a three game series against the Rays, and Friday’s pitching matchup is a good one: Josh Johnson vs. James Shields. Sunday’s game features top prospects Andrew Miller vs. David Price.

Philadelphia Phillies: (2-8; Leader)

The Phillies lost two of three to the Rays, and have seen their lead in the division shrink to .5 games. Cole Hamels will make the start tonight against Ricky Romero of the Toronto Blue Jays. The same Blue Jays who swept a three-game series from them last week.

Washington Nationals: (5-5; -16)

Jordan Zimmermann and the Nationals ruined John Smoltz’s Red Sox debut last night, to salvage the third game of their series with the Sox. The Nats begin a three game series with their geographic rival, Baltimore Orioles.  The Nationals lead the Bryce Harper sweepstakes by 7 over the Indians.

Weekly Musing:

A look at the standings will reveal that the San Francisco Giants not only lead the Wild Card race, but would be the division leader in the other two divisions.
