The Mets opened up a four-game series on the road against the Cubs and defeated Chicago 8-0, thanks to Brandon Nimmo and his scorching hot bat. Nimmo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, a walk, double, and a solo home run. The home run went a whopping 434 feet at Wrigley, Nimmo’s longest home run in over four years.

Nimmo had four hard hit balls on the night (at least 95 mph) and had two over 100 mph including the home run. The snubbed All-Star already has 31 extra-base hits on the second, his second-highest total for a single season.

Of course, a big key to Nimmo’s strong season has been his ability to stay on the field, he’s played in 82 of the Mets’ 90 games this year. He’s on pace to set a career-high with 148 games played, besting the 140 games in played back in 2018.

Nimmo has exploded with power recently, with five doubles and five home runs in his last 69 at-bats. When asked following the game about his recent power surge Nimmo said, “just trying to find the barrel, trying to hit the ball hard, enjoying it and glad to contribute.”

Nimmo’s nine home runs in 2022 are the most he’s had in a season since 2018 and he has a chance to top his career-high of 17 set that season. The 29-year-old is now hitting .275/.361/.447 with 17 doubles, five triples, and the nine home runs on the season. His OPS+ for the year is now at 130, the exact same number for his career totals.

The defensive improvements for Nimmo have been huge over the last two seasons and now he’s showing the Mets he can stay healthy while producing at the plate as well. With Nimmo putting together a complete season, he currently leads the Mets players with a 3.1 bWAR and his 3.2 fWAR is second on the team. Nimmo will certainly be a sought after player if the Mets let him hit free agency after the year.
