After the year of cardboard cutouts, this season has finally brought fans back into the ballpark, as Citi Field has been operating with a limited capacity crowd since Opening Day. As the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine continues, Citi Field is slowly returning to normal, with more fans being welcomed into the gates for Mets games.

According to Newsday‘s Tim Healey, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that “vaccinated seating” is coming to Citi Field, which will allow fans to once again be seated without social distancing at Mets home games.

Beginning on May 19th, vaccinated people will be allowed to sit in sections in normal, non-distanced seating, however they will be required to wear masks. Non-vaccinated people can still attend games, but will be seated in sections were people will need to be separated by six feet, with capacity being capped at 33% in those sections.

With these changes coming to both Citi Field and Yankee Stadium, the Department of Health will also be setting up vaccines at the games, where you will get a free ticket for a future game if you get the vaccine.

According to Healey, Sandy Alderson said that 2,000 people are getting vaccinated at Citi Field every day and they are working to set up a drive-through line. Along with the addition of “vaccinated seating”, Cuomo has announced that the Mets and Yankees are no longer requiring a negative COVID-19 test to get into games.

We are not going to see a completely sold out crowd at Citi Field just yet, but we are certainly getting a lot closer to that with these latest changes.
