Kohlwey joined the Mets in December after spending parts of eight seasons in the San Diego Padres organization and went 2-for-11 this spring with a walk and three strikeouts.

Smith also signed with the club in December and appeared in 10 games at the major league level with the Oakland Athletics last season before pitching a scoreless inning with a strikeout this spring.

Lavender was a 14th round pick of the Mets in 2021 and pitched two scoreless innings with four punchouts.

In other moves, outfielder Alex Ramírez (4-for-11, a walk and three strikeouts) was optioned to Double-A Binghamton while RHP Grant Hartwig (three scoreless innings, one strikeout and a save) and LHP Josh Walker (three innings, four unearned runs and four strikeouts) were both optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

The moves come less than three weeks before Opening Day as the Mets inch closer to finalizing their initial 26-man roster.
