Good Morning Mets Fans!

Zack Wheeler (3-3, 4.85 ERA) will toe the rubber today looking for redemption against Erick Fedde (0-0, 3.38 ERA) and the Nationals. In his last start, Wheeler struggled against Washington, allowing six runs in six innings. The game can be viewed on SNY and WCBS 880 at 7:10 p.m.

The Mets ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory against Patrick Corbin and the Nationals, finishing off an extremely normal day in MetsLand. Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario both went deep to support Wilmer Font, who limited the Nationals to two runs in four innings.

Where to even start?

Several hours before the game, the Mets announced that Seth Lugo, their most effective reliever, was placed on the 10-day IL with shoulder tendinitis. Hector Santiago was selected from Triple-A Syracuse, which forces the Mets to pay him a $2 million dollar salary.

Less than an hour later, Brodie Van Wagenen held a press conference to express his confidence in skipper Mickey Callaway. After the Mets’ recent skid, there was speculation that Callaway could be on his way out the door.

Van Wagenen also disclosed the shocking news that Yoenis Cespedes has suffered multiple ankle fractures after a violent fall at his ranch. Cespedes is currently recovering from surgery on both of his heels and while there might have been a slim chance that the Cuban slugger could have returned later in the year, this new injury ends his season. It’s unknown how much longer he’ll be out of action.

MetsMerizedOnline‘s own Ernest Dove tweets out that left-handed reliever Andrew Mitchell has been promoted to the St. Lucie Mets.

Down on the farm, Binghamton southpaw Anthony Kay threw seven no-hit innings against the Baysox. Even though his 1.07 ERA is tied for the second-best mark in Minor-League Baseball, he’s not expected to come up to Queens anytime soon.
