Good Morning, Mets fans! Tonight the New York Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 on SNY. Jacob deGrom will take the ball for New York and will be opposed by Mike Leake.

Last night, the Mets lost 5-0. Poor defense plagued the Mets as it usually has this season. The stat line would not be kind to Rafael Montero but his infield defense cost him big time. He has pitched much better since returning to the big leagues. As for the defense, maybe they could use a really good defensive shortstop who also could be a really good hitter.

Latest Mets News:

Shoes started to drop in the trade market. J.D. Martinez went to Arizona for three prospects. The return was underwhelming given the caliber of hitter that he is. The Mets could see that as a template for dealing Jay Bruce but they could also eat more money to get a better return, something the Tigers did not do.

Last night, the Yankees traded Tyler Clippard and a group of prospects headlined by Blake Rutherford for David Robertson, Todd Frazier, and Tommy Kahnle. The Yankees were linked to Lucas Duda and Addison Reed earlier in the day but they are likely out of the Reed market. They could still look to Duda as they need to upgrade 1B.

Speaking of that, Rob Bradford of WEEI reported the Red Sox like Addison Reed but “everyone is asking about Reed.” Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post  reported that the Mets are asking for a ton. Would not expect a Reed trade soon unless some team makes a great offer soon.

Ken Rosenthal reported early this morning that the Mets would be willing to eat money to secure better returns. This includes paying the tab on Asdrubal Cabrera‘s 2 million dollar buyout.
