The Yankees and White Sox are close to a deal to send Todd Frazier, David Robertson, and Tommy Kahnle to New York for a package of four players, including top prospect Blake Rutherford and reliever Tyler Clippard, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Frazier, 31, has been with Chicago since December 2015, when he was acquired in a three-team deal from the Cincinnati Reds. He has seen an increase in home runs the last few seasons, culminating in a 40-homer season in 2016, but has declined in overall offensive production. This year, Frazier is hitting .207/.328/.432 (105 OPS+) with 16 home runs in 335 plate appearances. He appeared in two All-Star Games for the Reds. He has spent time at both third and first base.

The Yankees and the 32 year-old Robertson would be reunited two and a half years after Robertson left in free agency after the 2014 season. He had previously spent seven seasons in the Bronx, posting a 2.81 ERA over 393.1 innings. He spent the last season there as the Yankees’ full-time closer, racking up 39 saves. Since leaving, he has become Chicago’s closer, saving 84 games in 153 appearances, posting a 3.28 ERA. He is in the third year of a four-year, $46 million contract.

In addition to Robertson, right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle would be headed to New York to further solidify the bullpen. He has a 2.50 ERA over 36 innings this season, in which he has struck out an astounding 60 batters.

Under this deal, the Yankees would be sending four players back in the deal, including last year’s first round pick Blake Rutherford. A speedy outfielder, Rutherford was ranked before the year as the 45th-best prospect in the game by Baseball America. According to our own Michael Mayer, he was highly admired by the Mets front office and would have been their pick had he fallen.

Clippard, 32, is having a rough season for the Yankees, and currently has a 4.95 ERA in 40 appearances. He will offset some of the hefty salary obligation the Yankees are taking on with Robertson.

Ian Clarkin, one of the Yanks’ 2013 first-round picks, would be headed to Chicago as well. A fourth, yet to be named player is to be included as well, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

If this trade goes through, any chance of Addison Reed or Lucas Duda being traded across town will be dead.
