They’ve made it clear that their plan is to retain general manager Billy Eppler as well, Martino also reported. Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the Dodgers called up pitching prospect Kyle Hurt, who has the highest strikeout rate of any qualified pitcher in the minors this year. He made his debut in Los Angeles’s 11-2 win over the Padres on Tuesday and retired Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto and Manny Machado in a nine-pitch eighth inning, then struck out the side to finish out the game.

The Padres put veteran left-hander (and former Met) Rich Hill on waivers, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported. Hill ended up pitching in the aforementioned Dodgers game, giving up two runs in two innings out of the bullpen. His ERA is 5.53 this year in his age-43 season.

Speaking of former Met starting pitchers, Max Scherzer was pitching well through 5 1/3 innings for the Rangers before wincing during a pitch and being removed prematurely. The Rangers announced it was a right triceps spasm.

Another veteran starter, Yu Darvish, was shut down for the season, Padres manager Bob Melvin said and AJ Cassavell of MLB reported. He reportedly has a bone spur in his elbow.

Next in the line of pitcher injuries: Braves southpaw Dylan Lee was shut down for the remainder of the year, per Justin Toscano of Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
