Former Angels manager Phil Nevin is under consideration for the Mets’ bench coach position, Mike Puma of the New York Post reported Monday. Nevin previously worked with Carlos Mendoza when he was the Yankees’ third base coach. Puma also noted that Nevin is considered a strong candidate for the Padres’ managerial position.

Andy Martino of SNY reported that Danny Barnes and Glenn Sherlock are both under consideration to return to the Mets’ coaching staff. The team is also considering A.J. Sager and Jose Rosado to be the bullpen coach.

In Jon Heyman’s predictions for the top free agents, he noted that the Mets have been linked to Shohei Ohtani to some degree. Heyman predicts that Ohtani will receive a $600 million contract.

The Mets have signed right-hander Cole Sulser to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. Sulser pitched in just four games for the Diamondbacks in 2023. His best season came in 2021 for the Orioles, recording a 2.70 ERA/2.98 FIP with 73 strikeouts and eight saves in 63 1/3 innings.

Francisco Lindor came through on his promise to Jeff McNeil, buying him a new car for winning the 2022 NL Batting Title. McNeil received a new Ford Bronco.

The 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot was revealed Monday, with 11 newcomers debuting. Former Mets Jose Reyes, David Wright, Jose Bautista, Adrian Gonzalez, and Bartolo Colon are among the new faces.

The Braves have signed righty Reynaldo López to a three-year contract worth $30 million. López spent time with the White Sox, Angels, and Guardians in 2023, registering a 3.27 ERA with 83 strikeouts in 66 innings. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Braves plan to use López as a starter in 2024.

The Cardinals have brought back Lance Lynn on a one-year contract worth $10 million. The 36-year-old had a 5.73 ERA with 191 strikeouts in 183 2/3 innings between the White Sox and Dodgers in 2023. In other Cardinals news, one of Lynn’s former teammates, Daniel Descalso, has been hired to join the team’s coaching staff. The former infielder does not have an official title yet.

The Tigers were among the teams interested in Lynn before he signed with the Cardinals, and Detroit is closely monitoring the starting pitching market, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. The Tigers have interest in former Met Seth Lugo, who had a 3.57 ERA in 146 1/3 innings for the Padres this past season.

Left-handed reliever Zack Britton announced his retirement in an interview with Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic. “My gut was telling me it was time to see what life was like on the other side,” Britton said. The two-time All-Star finishes his career with 154 saves and a 3.13 ERA across 12 seasons. He won the Mariano Rivera AL Reliever of the Year Award in 2016 when he pitched to a 0.54 ERA in 67 innings, racking up an AL-leading 47 saves.
