Francisco Lindor came through this month on a deal he made with Jeff McNeil in 2022. When the red-hot McNeil was batting .348 toward the end of the season, Lindor told McNeil he would buy him a car if he won the National League batting title. McNeil went on to do just that in 2022, finishing the season with a .326 average, a one percentage point win over Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

For the 2022 season, McNeil batted .326/.382/.454, with a .836 OPS. He had 39 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, drove in 62 RBI’s, and scored 73 runs. He also walked 40 times and stole four bases over the course of his title-winning 2022 season. McNeil was also a 2022 National League All-Star, finished eighth in the NL in doubles, fifth in hits, 15th in hit-by pitches, and fourth in on-base percentage.

It was a new-car-worthy season, and all eyes were on Lindor to make good on his promise to McNeil.

In an appearance on Bleacher Report’s “On Base with Mookie Betts” podcast, Lindor affirmed he would make good on his deal with McNeil:

“It will happen, it’s just a matter of time. In the offseason, I have got nothing but time, so it will happen,” said Lindor.

Per Tim Healey of Newsday Sports, McNeil’s agent, Garrett Parcell, confirmed that just over one year later, Lindor delivered on his promise, purchasing McNeil a brand new Ford Branco.

McNeil and Lindor have been teammates for the last three seasons since Lindor joined the Mets’ roster in 2021.
