Good morning, Mets fans!

Cubs beat writer Bruce Levine went on local Chicago radio and said the Cubs will try to do “everything they can” to try and trade for Pete Alonso from the Mets. Their goal is to re-sign Cody Bellinger and have Alonso, too.

Now, in David Stearns’ introductory press conference Monday, he said he doesn’t expect to trade Alonso ahead of the 2024 season.

“Pete is a great player and he’s also great in the clubhouse, and he’s also homegrown. All of that matters,” Stearns said.

Mike Puma of the New York Post also reported on Monday that Pete Alonso was most upset when he found out the Mets were letting Buck Showalter go on Sunday. Alonso reportedly had to be talked out of going to Steve Cohen to voice his unhappiness.

It’s going to be an interesting offseason with the Mets and Alonso, with the range of outcomes being a long-term extension or fanbase-crushing trade.
