The New York Mets put a cap on their disappointing 2023 season with a two-game split against the Miami Marlins (pending the result of a suspended game currently in flux) as well as a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

While there wasn’t an overabundance of success stories in Queens this year, Francisco Lindor etched his name into the record books this week while Tylor Megill carries some optimism into 2024 after one of his better starts of the season.

Hitter of the Week

Francisco Lindor’s remarkable campaign reached its climax this week as he became the fourth-ever Met to accomplish a 30-30 season, largely in part to a late-season surge.

Lindor opened the week with a 2-for-4 and four RBI showing in the first leg of a doubleheader against the Marlins on Wednesday, which included a two-run homer off Braxton Garrett. In the nightcap, he went deep twice with two solo shots in back-to-back at-bats against Johnny Cueto to reach that 30-home run plateau. He finished the series with a 1-for-3 performance in Thursday’s suspended game.

In Saturday’s doubleheader against the Phillies, Lindor put up a 1-for-3 performance with a walk and a double in the first game before hitting his final home run of the year, number 31, off Michael Plassmeyer in the nightcap.

In total, Lindor slashed .400/.550/.1.200 with four homers and eight RBIs for the week.

Pitcher of the Week

Tylor Megill had a bit of a rollercoaster season but an impressive run of outings to close the year which may aid his outlook moving forward.

Megill’s last start of the year came in the first game of the doubleheader against the Phillies on Saturday. After walking two batters in the first, he settled in and retired 19 of his next 21 batters through the eighth inning while recording seven strikeouts over the course of his 7 1/3 innings of work.

Megill allowed just one run, which came across in the eighth inning after he was removed from the game and notched his ninth win of the season in the process.
