The Orioles have selected the contract of old friend Matt Harvey, according to Dan Connolly of the Tampa Bay Times. He had an opt-out that could be triggered Wednesday and O’s had 48 hours after that to add him or release him.

The White Sox general manager Rick Hahn announced today that Eloy Jimenez has suffered a rupture of his left pectoral tendon, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN. The recovery for this type of injury is usually 5-6 months.

Marc Topkin of The Athletic reported that Rays reliever Nick Anderson has a partial tear of elbow ligament and is likely to be out past the All-Star break. No surgery was recommended.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB Network, The Orioles announce that left-handed pitcher Wade LeBlanc has requested and been granted his release to become a free agent.

Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said that the MRI on starting pitcher Kyle Freeland confirmed a left shoulder strain, and news looks “pretty promising,” per Thomas Harding of MLB.com. There is no timetable for his return. He will miss at least a month and will begin the year on the injured list but will soon begin throwing and strengthening.

Gio Gonzalez has announced his retirement from baseball, per Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. The Hialeah native and 13-year MLB veteran signed a minor-league deal with the Marlins earlier this month. 

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Juan Soto is okay after exiting the Nationals game early today. He experienced calf tightness but it’s not expected to be a lingering issue.

Pitchers Ivan Nova and Hector Rondon have both requested and been granted their release from the Phillies, per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com

On This Date in Mets History 

On March 26, 1988, left-handed catcher Mackey Sasser was acquired by the Mets in a trade that sent first baseman Randy Mulligan to the Pirates. Sasser was a back-up to the legendary Gary Carter until his depart in 1989.  He hit .309/.403/.712 in his five seasons with New York. The Mets chose not to resign him when he became a free agent because of defensive struggles.
