The Mets announced on Thursday they’ve released right-hander Tommy Hunter. The veteran reliever had an opt-out clause in his minor league contract and the Mets decided not to add him to the 40-man roster.

Hunter, 34, had a 3.60 ERA in five innings this Spring for the Mets. He allowed three hits, four walks, and struck out only three.

Roster Resource from FanGraphs has the following as the Mets projected Opening Day bullpen:

Tim Britton of The Athletic reports that Hunter’s opt-out deadline was March 24. He also reports that Montgomery has one on March 28 and outfield Mallex Smith has one on April 1.

The Mets now have 39 players in big league camp.
