Good morning, Mets fans!

Bill Shaikin and Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times report that a group of formerly employed veteran scouts are suing Major League Baseball, accusing MLB of age discrimination and “blacklisting” older scouts. The lawsuit, which names commissioner Rob Manfred, the league office, and all 30 major league clubs as defendants, claims that MLB used the pandemic and analytics as “pretext for coordinated and systemic discrimination based on age.”

The Mets failed to keep the Astros offense down on Wednesday afternoon as the reigning World Series champions won the rubber match by a score of 10-8. Starters Cristian Javier and Tylor Megill had quick exits as they both only lasted 2 1/3 while giving up four earned runs apiece. Daniel Vogelbach and Starling Marte had some key hits to keep the Mets’ heads above water early, but the Astros immediately responded. The New York bullpen was not up to snuff, and the backend of Houston’s bullpen put an end to the back-and-forth battle as they shut down the Mets offense in the final three innings. The Mets now have an off day to regroup as they travel to Philadelphia to take on a red hot Phillies team.

A pair of star shortstops, Bo Bichette and Dansby Swanson, are dealing with injuries and were both left out of their respective lineups today. Bichette was a late scratch from the Blue Jays lineup due to “left thumb discomfort“, but it seems as though it is minor and that a couple of days of rest is all that will be needed. While the Blue Jays are forgoing X-rays with Bichette, the Cubs were more cautious as they sent their shortstop for X-rays after getting hit in the wrist with a pitch on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the x-rays came back negative; Dansby got the day off but is expected to be back in the lineup soon.
