Good morning, Mets fans!

Forty years ago on this date, in 1986, the Mets won the World Series 8-5 with a Game 7 thriller against the Boston Red Sox.

The Mets overcame an early 3-0 deficit against the Red Sox after rallying to win Game 6 the night before. Infielder Ray Knight earned the World Series Most Valuable Player Award after hitting a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning of Game 7. Pitcher Jesse Orosco recorded the final out, throwing his glove into the air as catcher Gary Carter and teammates celebrated on the mound.

It was the second world championship in the history of the Mets organization, and all of these years later, fans are still waiting for a third.

World Series Results

Game 3 of the World Series was an absolute thrashing, with the Brewers defeating the Rays 10-1 and taking a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Jackson Chourio was the story, tallying four hits and tying Andruw Jones for the most multi-hit postseason games before turning 23 years old. The youngster is having a series for the ages, and seems destined to win the MVP.

The game-changing moment occurred in the fifth inning, when William Contreras grounded into what seemed to be an inning-ending out. Instead, the Rays threw the ball to second base where Christian Yelich was ruled out initially, and then overturned via challenge. Despite there being two outs, the Brewers went on to score eight runs in the inning, taking an unthinkable 10-0 lead that they would not look back from.

Former Met Freddy Peralta’s numbers ended up looking worse than they might have been if an out had been recorded to end the fifth inning, with a final line of 4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.

The Brewers will go for the sweep at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday.
