Good morning, Mets fans!
On Saturday, the Mets took the field for the first time in 2025, where they recorded a 6-2 spring training victory over the Houston Astros to start spring training 1-0.
During his first at-bat in a Mets uniform, Juan Soto homered to left-center field. Clay Holmes, who the Mets signed to a three-year, $38M deal this offseason, got the starting nod and threw three perfect innings before manager Carlos Mendoza went to the bullpen.

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Brewers have signed outfielder Mark Canha to a minor league deal with an invite to MLB spring training. In 125 games last season, the former Met batted .242/.344/.346/.690.
Speaking with Heyman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. says he loves Canada and the Jays but is open to all 30 teams, even the Yankees, while explaining why he used to dislike them. Guerrero Jr. said one reason was the Yankees’ removing an offer to his father so Steinbrenner could sign fellow Tampan Sheffield. However, there was also another reason.
“When I was a child with my dad, and like all [players’] kids I was in front of the dugout, and somebody from the Yankees told my dad that ‘You gotta take your kid [inside]. You can’t be on the field,’” Guerrero told the Post. “I felt bad. And it stood with me.”
On Saturday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora acknowledged that pitcher Kutter Crawford (right patellar tendon soreness) and Brayan Bello (right shoulder soreness) remain delayed in their throwing programs, leaving the chances of them being ready for Opening Day slim.
In 182 2/3 innings with the Sox last season, Crawford compiled a 9-6 record and a 4.36 ERA. On the other hand, Bello appeared in 162 1/3 innings for Boston last season, recording a 14-8 record and a 4.49 ERA.
According to Chandler Rome and Katie Woo of The Athletic, while the Astros have re-engaged in trade talks with the Cardinals for third baseman Nolan Arenado, no deal is gaining traction. In 578 at-bats with St. Louis last season, Arenado slashed .272/.325/.394/.719.
