1982: The Mets traded Charlie Puleo, Jason Felice, and Lloyd McClendon to the Cincinnati Reds for Tom Seaver. The Mets did not have high expectations for Seaver’s upcoming season, as his stats for the previous season were a 5-13 record and a 5.50 ERA. However, he was able to put together a solid season for the Mets in 1983 with a 3.35 ERA including 231 innings pitched to fill the rotation nicely.

2012: The Mets traded R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole, and Mike Nickeas to the Toronto Blue Jays for Noah Syndergaard, John Buck, Wuilmer Becerra, and Travis d’Arnaud. Dickey had just become the first knuckleball pitcher to win the Cy Young award, so the Mets were able to leverage his high value to get Syndergaard and D’Arnaud to Queens.
