The Mets lost the opening game of their series in Cincinnati against the Reds by a 7-6 score despite two home runs from young catcher Francisco Álvarez and one from Francisco Lindor.

David Peterson made the start after Max Scherzer was scratched with neck spasms. He allowed four runs in 3 1/3 innings raising his ERA to 7.68 for the season.

Carlos Carrasco made a rehab start for Binghamton on Tuesday night. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk and one strikeout. He threw 33 pitches in the outing.

The Mets signed former Yankees star Gary Sánchez and assigned him to Triple-A Syracuse, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported. Jon Heyman of the New York Post added that he’ll get $1.5M if he’s in the majors with the Mets, plus $1.2M incentives.

The Mets will play a two-game series against the Phillies in London next season per Sports Illustrated.
