Good Morning Mets Fans. The Metropolitans (9-13) will look to build upon their big win on Friday night as they continue their series against the Washington Nationals (16-7). Zack Wheeler toes the rubber for New York and will be opposed by Stephen Strasburg.

At a time when they needed one of their starting pitchers to step up in a big way, Jacob deGrom did just that. The deGrominator put together a fantastic performance as he pitched seven strong innings while allowing three runs on six hits. He walked just one on the day and struck out a total of 12 Nationals in the team’s 7-5 victory. Read more from David Lennon in Newsday.

Travis d’Arnaud would have himself a night as well, stepping up to carry the offense through the majority of the game with two moonshots. The Mets catcher would come through in a big way, destroying pitches from Nationals ace, Max Scherzer. In what was the surprise move of the season thus far, Terry Collins lifted closer, Jeurys Familia in the ninth inning with one out and the bases loaded for Josh Edgin. With the Mets up by a score of 7-5, Edgin would reward his manager’s gutsy decision by getting Bryce Harper to hit into a 1-2-3 double play to end the game.
