The Mets begin a four-game series against the Braves tonight at Truist Park, the first of 13 meetings between the teams. Last season, the Braves dominated the Mets, winning 10 of the 13 matchups, including five of the six games in Atlanta. The Mets haven’t won the season series against the Braves since 2017. Former Brave Julio Teheran will make his Mets debut in the series opener, facing off against veteran Charlie Morton (1-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.

Sean Manaea held the Reds to one run and three hits, striking out six in five innings, and Jorge López, Brooks Raley, Adam Ottavino, and Edwin Díaz combined for four hitless innings to secure a 3-1 victory and the Mets’ first series win of the season. Francisco Lindor snapped out of his 0-for-24 skid, going 2-for-5 with a double and his first homer of the season. Starling Marte and Tyrone Taylor also collected two hits in the game.

Mets Hall of Famer Jerry Grote passed away Sunday at the age of 81. Acquired from Houston in 1965, Grote was a two-time All-Star in New York and was the starting catcher for the World Series-winning team in 1969 and the NL Pennant-winning team in 1973. He was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 1992. May he rest in peace.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said J.D. Martinez will not join the team in Atlanta this week. Martinez has been dealing with general body soreness and will return to action in Port St. Lucie on Tuesday. He could join the team on the upcoming homestand.

Mets prospect Drew Gilbert was placed on the seven-day injured list due to a mild hamstring strain. Gilbert suffered the injury in the first inning of Syracuse’s game in Scranton on Saturday night.

Astros rookie Ronel Blanco followed up his season-opening no-hitter by throwing 5 2/3 more hitless innings on Sunday night against the Rangers before Adolis García singled. Blanco’s 44 outs before allowing a hit are the most by a pitcher to begin a season in at least the expansion era, per Elias Sports Bureau.

The Diamondbacks have placed All-Star shortstop Geraldo Perdomo on the injured list due to a torn right meniscus. Veteran infielder Kevin Newman has been called up from Triple-A Reno, and righty Corbin Martin has been designated for assignment.

The Marlins have reportedly voided their club option on manager Skip Schumaker for the 2025 season. Schumaker won NL Manager of the Year honors in 2023. Kim Ng was the Marlins’ general manager at the time of Schumaker’s hiring, but she has since left the organization.

The Pirates have traded righty Colin Selby to the Royals in exchange for left-hander Connor Oliver. Selby had been designated for assignment on April 2.

2022: Max Scherzer earns a win in his Mets debut, allowing three runs and three hits in six innings against the Nationals, and Jeff McNeil homers on his birthday for the second year in a row as the Mets win 7-3. Starling Marte drives in three runs in the win.
