Morning Briefing: Kodai Senga Still Only Playing Light Catch

Good morning, Mets fans!

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said in a pregame press conference on Saturday that Kodai Senga is still only playing light catch and there are no current plans for him to advance to working on a mound yet.

The Mets on Saturday retired former outfielder Darryl Strawberry’s No. 18 in a pregame ceremony at Citi Field. His family, friends, and many former teammates were on hand for the ceremony.

After winning two games in a row, the Mets dropped Game 3 of the series to the Diamondbacks 10-5 on Saturday.

The Mets and Diamondbacks close out their series on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET. It will be Brandon Pfaadt (2-4, 4.16 ERA) on the mound for the Diamondbacks against Jose Quintana (1-5, 5.06 ERA) for the Mets.

Right-handed pitcher Jordan Romano was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

The Seattle Mariners announced the following roster transactions on Saturday:

Right-handed pitcher Collin Snider was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
Left-handed pitcher Gabe Speier was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 30 with a left rotator cuff strain.

Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network, Julio Teheran is opting out of his minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Placed right-handed pitchers Yu Darvish (left groin strain; retroactive to May 30) and Joe Musgrove (right elbow inflammation; retroactive to May 29) on the 15-day injured list.

Per Los Angeles Dodgers reporter Kirsten Watson, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw faced hitters in a simulation game on Saturday for the first time post-surgery and said he feels good and has been recovering well.
