Good morning Mets fans!

Manager Carlos Mendoza revealed a potentially positive development to the media, saying that recently signed DH J.D. Martinez could join the Mets as soon as Sunday, the day of the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds.

The 36-year-old signed with the team on March 23, less than a week before the season commenced, and recently reported to Port St. Lucie, Florida, for a brief spring training. Martinez took a ton of at-bats on Tuesday and had a couple of hits, including a double

“This is a pretty quick ramp-up for him,” Mendoza said. “It’s a different spring training. … Since we signed him, he’s been on the go.”

The Mets are 28th in the league in batting average and OPS and tied for last in runs. The infusion of Martinez, who hit 33 home runs and drove in more than 100 runs in 2023, could significantly reverse the team’s early-season woes.
