David Lennon of Newsday writes on the huge impact Jose Reyes can have on the bases in 2017. The writer looks for Reyes to be a big stolen base threat once more. It is worth noting that Reyes had nine stolen bases in 11 attempts in 2016. Jose will be asked to be the catalyst once more atop the lineup this season, he showed signs of still being able to be quite productive in his first season back with the Mets last year. It will be interesting to see what he can do with a full season, now at the age of 33.

Asdrubal Cabrera had a strange standoff with umpire Angel Hernandez in Thursday’s Grapefruit League game. Cabrera had asked Hernandez for time during an at-bat in which Hernandez called a strike on him instead. Cabrera though would troll Hernandez, taking his sweet time walking off the field. Read more from Kristie Ackert in the NYDN.

Ken Davidoff of the NY Post writes of Zack Wheeler running out of time to prove himself to the Mets prior to opening day. Being this late in spring, it most likely would be best for Zack to stay in extended spring training to continue to work while saving some innings for later in the season. Wheeler though has impressed at times this spring and could finally be a real asset to the team once again.
