Freddie Freeman homered in his fifth straight World Series game, and Walker Buehler tossed five shutout innings to lead the Dodgers to a 4-2 win and a 3-0 series lead. The Yankees left eight men on base and mustered just one hit with runners in scoring position, but Giancarlo Stanton was thrown out by Teoscar Hernández trying to score on the play. Buehler joins Madison Bumgarner, Warren Spahn, and George Earnshaw as the only pitchers to toss five shutout innings and allow two or fewer hits in multiple World Series starts. Freeman, meanwhile, has tied George Springer for the most consecutive World Series games with a home run.
The Yankees will look to fend off elimination, sending Luis Gil (15-7, 3.50 ERA) to the hill, while the Dodgers will go with a bullpen game. Gil walked three batters but held the Guardians to two runs on three hits in Game 4 of the ALCS. First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m.

The Mets have inked right-hander Chris Devenski to a minor league contract. Devenski was an All-Star for the Astros in 2017 but hasn’t replicated that success since, including a rough 6.75 ERA in 26 2/3 innings for the Rays this year. However, he finished the season with a 2.35 ERA over 23 innings in Triple-A in the Mariners’ organization.
