Good Morning Mets Fans. The New York Mets will send Jacob deGrom to the mound today as he will face off against Jose Urena and the Miami Marlins. Rafael Montero also is slated to pitch in this game as he looks to rebound from his previous appearance and make a push for a spot in the bullpen. Today’s game is scheduled to start at 1:10 PM ET and can be seen on WPIX as well as heard on WOR.
Yesterday, Robert Gsellman continued to state his case for winning the fifth spot in the rotation as he pitched five strong innings while allowing just one run on four hits. The right-hander also struck out three batters and allowed one walk in the team’s 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

While Robert Gsellman and the Mets were in Jupiter for Saturday’s regularly scheduled Grapefruit League contest, Noah Syndergaard remained in Port St. Lucie, where he threw five innings in a minor league game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Just when you thought he was gone, they brought him back in. Tim Tebow started for the Mets in left field on Saturday and went 1-for-3 on the day. Terry Collins has stated that Tebow now may see more action before the spring is over after stating this week that Tebow’s time in big league camp was finished.
Brandon Nimmo re-aggravated his hamstring on Saturday while performing running drills. This unfortunately will push Nimmo back and make him unlikely for opening day. The 23-year-old may have had an outside shot of being the team’s fifth outfielder. He though would seemingly be better off in Las Vegas, playing everyday.
Ty Kelly, who recently returned from the WBC, has his eye on winning the last spot on the Mets’ bench. It seems unlikely at this point as the team can seemingly do better by having a player like T.J. Rivera on the squad. Rivera has proven his worth throughout his minor league career and again in his short time in the majors last season. Team USA defeated Jose Reyes‘ Dominican Republic team Saturday night by a score of 6-3 to advance to face Japan in the semifinals. Reyes was 0-for-5 in the win or go home game.
NL EAST RUMBLINGS
Philadelphia Phillies starter, Aaron Nola continued his spring work on Friday as he readies himself for the regular season. Nola missed the final two months of the 2016 season due to an elbow injury and is said to be on track. Aaron is looked at as one of the cornerstones of the team’s young rotation. Dansby Swanson is on the road to recovery for the Atlanta Braves as he appeared in a minor league game on Saturday. He went 2-for-3 on the day, including a homer that gave the organization great confidence of seeing him back on the big league fields soon enough.
