Good morning, Mets fans

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Dedniel Núñez was being considered for a call-up but noted the team wants to be sure he’s ready to stay in the majors when that time comes. Mendoza added that additional roster moves are likely in the coming days, and Núñez could be among those affected.

In his most recent outing for Triple-A Syracuse, Núñez delivered a mixed performance: 1 1/3 innings with three hits allowed, no runs, no walks, one strikeout and two balks, while allowing both inherited runners to score. He did flash his potential, touching 99 mph twice with his fastball. Over 10 1/3 innings this season, Núñez has allowed 21 baserunners but holds a 3.48 ERA.

Now onto the morning briefing!

The infield talent is deep too, with Jacob Reimer, Marco Vargas, and Daiverson Gutierrez just missing the list, and Elian Peña and Jeremy Rodriguez not far behind.

Anthony DiComo and Paige Leckie of MLB.com write about reliever Reed Garrett and how he has become a key bullpen arm for the Mets, relying on his approach of challenging hitters with all four pitches. As part of a new labor agreement with the Major League Umpires Association, the margin of error for umpires has decreased, resulting in fewer strikes being called off the edges of the plate. While the number of affected pitches is small, the impact on game-planning, pitch sequencing, and roster decisions has been significant, with players and teams adjusting to the new strike zone.
