Good morning, Mets fans!

Mets legend and Los Angeles Angels minor leaguer Daniel Murphy announced his retirement from baseball once again, this being the second time he’s retired from the sport. After signing a deal with the Long Island Ducks earlier this year, Murphy later signed a minor league deal with the Angels and later climbed through the ranks to as high as the Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City.

His retirement was announced in a slew of Angels roster moves, including catcher Logan O’Hoppe being transferred to Triple-A Salt Lake from Single-A Inland Empire on rehab assignment and Preston Palmeiro being activated from the development list by Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Mets lost a rough one to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-4 on Tuesday night. In a game started by David Peterson, the Mets got on the board quick with a leadoff solo home run from Brandon Nimmo. Pittsburgh later tied the game up the following inning with a solo home run of its own.
The seventh inning was where the Mets’ bullpen, more specifically Grant Hartwig, collapsed. The inning was started by José Butto, who loaded the bases for the incoming reliever Hartwig. Hartwig proceeded to walk and hit the next batter. A passed ball scored another run, and two extra-base hits resulted in a six-run seventh inning for the Pirates, who led 7-1 at that point.
DJ Stewart hit a two-run home run and Jonathan Araúz homered right after Stewart to shorten the Pirates’ lead to 7-4, but that’s all the Mets’ offense had for the night. Wednesday afternoon’s game will be the deciding game in the three-game series.
Brett Baty, who is killing it in the minors since his return, went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, including a grand slam. That’s his third home run in his five games since being demoted back to Triple-A.
Drew Gilbert hit his first home run as a member of the Mets organization for Double-A Rumble Ponies in the eighth inning.
Pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis has elected free agency, according to MetsMinors.net. He was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse recently by the Mets.
