Good morning, Mets fans!

While the Mets and White Sox are battling on the field, Carlos Carrasco of the Mets and Liam Hendriks of the White Sox teamed up off the field for a greater cause. The two cancer survivors came together before Wednesday’s game for a special edition of “Cookie’s Kids” as they hosted pediatric cancer patients from “Cohen Children’s”. The kids were taken on a tour of Citi Field as well as hearing the big leaguers stories from their bouts with Cancer, on top of receiving giveaways, lunch, and tickets to a future Mets game. In an article from Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Carrasco said “There’s a lot of people who can see that [and realize] if we can make it, they can make it, too.”

On the field, the Mets won their third game in a row by a score of 5-1 behind a dominant performance from Justin Verlander who put up eight innings of one-run ball. Brett Baty opened the scoring in the third with a solo home run and the Mets tagged on four more in the fourth behind some key situational hitting.

The Mets go for the sweep on Thursday as José Quintana makes his season debut against Michael Kopech (3-8, 4.47 ERA) of the White Sox at 1:10 p.m. ET.

Doc Gooden is putting his recruiting hat on as he posted a picture of him and Shohei Ohtani on twitter earlier today, prior to his appearance on Baseball Night in New York on SNY. During his appearance, Gooden said “I’ve heard some things… I’ll leave it at that” in reference to Shohei Ohtani coming to the Mets. Doc also offered up his esteemed number 16 if Ohtani were to come to Queens this coming off-season.

Starling Marte missed his third game in the Mets last four as he is still suffering from migraines and went to go see a specialist to try and find out the root of the problem. Marte has dealt with migraines in the past but they were never thought as chronic, so the Mets will try and find an answer to Marte’s ailment.

The Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics completed a one-for-one trade, where Baltimore is receiving Japanese reliever Shintaro Fujinami and is sending a Triple-A lefty in Easton Lucas to Oakland in return. Fujinami, who signed a one-year deal with Oakland this past offseason after a decade in Japan, will come to Baltimore as the Orioles try to beat out the Rays in a battle for the A.L. East crown. While the 6-foot-6 flame thrower has an unimpressive 8.57 ERA, he has thrived since being moved to the bullpen after seven starts and boasts a 2.25 ERA in the month of July thus far.

The Orioles also made some more news as they placed their star center fielder, Cedric Mullins, on the 10-day IL with a right adductor groin strain, retroactive to July 16. Mullins has been sidelined with a groin problem earlier on in the season and will now miss more time due to the nagging injury.

The Phillies received some unfortunate news as their top prospect, Andrew Painter, is going to undergo Tommy John surgery as recommended by the Phillies medical staff. Painter has been managing a right UCL injury for about four months, but Painter and the Phillies are going to resolve the problem once and for all; Painter will most likely be sidelined until 2025.
