The Brewers agreed to re-sign Brandon Woodruff to a two-year contract on Sunday. Milwaukee non-tendered the two-time All-Star earlier in the offseason and he’s expected to miss the 2024 season after undergoing shoulder surgery. Woodruff only pitched in 67 innings for the Brewers in 2023, posting a strong 2.28 ERA with 74 strikeouts.

Carlos Mendoza said Monday that when everyone is healthy and producing, Harrison Bader will be the team’s center fielder, while Brandon Nimmo will slide to left field. Mendoza also said he spent hours preparing his first speech for the team but ended up ditching his notes. He added that players told him after the meeting, “Man, that was real.”

The Mets’ TV broadcast schedule for spring training was revealed, with SNY’s first telecast coming on February 24. SNY will carry 12 games this spring, while PIX 11 will broadcast two.

The Mets and Luke Voit agreed to a minor league contract. Voit played in 37 games for Triple-A Syracuse in 2023, crushing 14 homers with a 1.058 OPS before being granted his release.

Nationals managing principal owner Mark Lerner told the Washington Post on Monday that his family is no longer exploring a sale of the franchise. Lerner’s father, Ted, passed away this past May at the age of 97. The family had announced in 2022 that they were looking to sell the team, but Lerner said that they decided in 2023 to not sell.

The Red Sox have agreed with Liam Hendriks to a two-year contract worth $10 million. Hendriks missed the first two months of the 2023 season while undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, then had to undergo Tommy John surgery later in the summer.

Mike Trout said Monday that he doesn’t want to be traded, calling it “the easy way out.” Trout added that he’s been pushing the Angels’ brass to sign one of the big remaining free agents.

The Phillies officially signed Whit Merrifield to a one-year contract. Merrifield made his third All-Star Game in 2023, batting .272/.318/.382 with 11 homers and 26 steals in 592 plate appearances.

The Pirates have claimed Canaan Smith-Njigba off waivers from the Mariners and placed righty JT Brubaker on the 60-day injured list to clear a 40-man roster spot. Smith-Njigba was claimed by Seattle from Pittsburgh just 13 days ago.

The Cubs have signed former Mets first-round pick Dominic Smith to a minor league contract that can be worth up to $3.5 million if he makes the majors. Smith spent 2023 with the Nationals, batting .254/.326/.366 with 12 homers in 586 plate appearances. He underwent hamate bone surgery in January but should be a full go by the end of spring training.

The Cubs have also signed veteran outfielder David Peralta. The 36-year-old spent 2023 with the Dodgers, batting .259/.294/.381 (81 OPS+) with seven homers in 422 plate appearances.
